NATIONAL NETWORK

CEI is modeled after NWEI but shares its programs with autonomous groups across Canada. The history of the Canadian National Network came out of the success of NWEI’s programs.

By 1996, NWEI was overwhelmed by requests for the discussion courses from groups outside the Northwest. In response NWEI created the National Earth Institute Network to share NWEI programs with autonomous groups in other regions. Now CEI furthers the sharing by offering the courses in Canada.

Those involved in the Network offer NWEI or CEI programs in their communities. To facilitate this process, the Network produces program materials including course books and related manuals, provides on-site community and regional training for groups that are progressing well, and organizes a central training at the head office each year.

The National Earth Institute Network has over 600 volunteers organizing courses, presenting information on NWEI programs and mentoring others through the discussion course process.  To date, cumulative enrollment has reached over 80,000 participants and courses have been offered in nearly 900 communities in all 50 states.

In Canada, the National Network includes three categories of groups and individuals offering CEI programs in communities outside of British Columbia.

  • Become a local organizer: Start a discussion course in your community. Gather others to participate in a course at your work place at noon, your faith or community center, or with friends at home. Be part of generating inspiring and thought-provoking dialogue about issues that matter to you and others. Email web@canadianearthinstitute.org for how to get started.
  • Become a CEI Affiliate: An affiliate group may choose to take multiple courses in the series and to offer the courses broadly to the public. An Affiliates Manual is available to assist groups in their community outreach efforts.
  • Join the network of Sister Earth Institutes: Be an agent of enduring change in your region.  As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Contact information for the sister earth institutes
  • Join or visit Earth Institute Connect, the National Earth Institute Network’s online community forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eiConnect/.
