HOW TO ORGANIZE A DISCUSSION GROUP

Choose your area to find out how to start a course discussion group.

Victoria / Other British Columbia / National

In the Victoria Capital Region area:

Starting a course is easy - just follow these steps:

  1. Become a Local Organizer! Start a discussion course in your community. Gather others to participate in a course at your workplace at noon, your faith or community center, or with friends at home. Be part of generating inspiring and thought-provoking dialogue about issues that matter to you and others. Email: web@canadianearthinstitute.org for how to get started.
  2. Reserve a space for the 1-hour introductory presentation. This is usually a brown bag lunch at work or a gathering at a convenient time at your home, center of faith, or other community space.
  3. After the date and location are set, invite others to the meeting. CEI has materials that are helpful in this process.
  4. At the introductory meeting, an earth institute volunteer describes the course and explains how it works. Those who want to join the discussion group sign up and pick up a course book. The group then sets a date for the first discussion session. If you have 14 or more people sign up, we recommend that you form two course groups.

Community Coordinators are becoming active in the other B.C. communities:

In B.C. communities outside the Victoria area, CEI chapters and volunteers are beginning to offer CEI discussion courses. The only cost is for the course book.

Starting a course is easy - just follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Canadian Earth Institute (250) 727-9163 or email us to find out if there is a coordinator in your area and their name and contact information.
  2. Reserve a space for an introductory presentation, usually a brown bag lunch at work or a gathering at a convenient time at your home, center of faith, or other community space.
  3. After the date and location are set, invite others to the meeting. CEI offers NWEI materials that are helpful in this process.

At the introductory meeting, a CEI volunteer will describe the course and explain how it works. Those interested in participating will sign up, pick up course books, and set a date for the first discussion session. If more than 14 people are interested, a second group will form.
